More Snow Pics!
Posted By: tessfully, 01-01-2013, 02:09 PM

We are having a real winter this year, lots of snow and quite cold. Here are some shots from around the yard over the last few days. These are all taken without my trusty tripod.

The first bunch with my Christmas present the Tamron 17 - 50mm f/2.8

Our guest cabin

Have a seat!

Fine dining...

I like the lens as it allows me focus quite close...

A couple of shots with my 'new' F lens Pentax 70 - 210 which continues to impress me...

@135mm f/5.6 ISO 1600

The perquisite Leafs on Snow shot with the Tamron 90mm

thanks for looking

Happy New Year!!! (Thank goodness I can start a new file for my photos --- January here I come!!!)

Absolutely wonderful photos Tess! I love looking at snow but don't enjoy being in it any more! I admire your grit to get out there and shoot pictures! Thanks!
Thanks Will! Winter is a natural for me. I love the cold and the snow.... but, I do know how to dress so I stay toasty warm, even if it is minus 25 celsius.

Love the snow!! I'm so glad you got the 17-50, Tess! It's a lens I always wanted, but I doubt I'll get it now that I have the 18-135. Still, I always like seeing the great images it produces! I just love the sharpness of these. Wonderful snowy doggy face and the icicle shot is grand!! A wonderful series.
Thanks Lori! The 18 - 135 you have is Norman's favourite all purpose lens. He gets amazing results with it... I am enjoying the Tamron 17 - 50. It seems very sharp and brings out nice textures.

Wonderful images. Thank you for sharing. I especially enjoyed the ones you took with your new Tamron 17-50 mm because I also just received this lens, and have just started trying it out. I will try some snow images as well, but you have established a high standard to try to meet.
Thanks so much for the kind comments Ivan! I look *very* forward to seeing your images.

Thank you mde!! Rain and mist has its own mystic, but ya, it can wear on you too, just like a long cold winter.

Why did you choose to use such a larger aperture setting for the first wide shot pics? Why not use faster shutter speed and f-stop of f8 or higher?

Thanks for having a look hockmasm... hmm.. I think I used f/5.6 and f/8 for most of these shots. If you are referring the f/2.8 at the start of the thread I was identifying my new lens. But, I do tend to use 5.6 or 8 all the time as Photozone rated that lens to be sharpest at those f stops..... but I really should try f/11 or f/16 for landscapes more often.
