A few pics from Germany
Posted By: maxwell1295, 02-19-2008, 12:33 AM

We're visiting family here in Germany. These shots were taken in Heidelberg. I'm on my wife's laptop, so any PP was done with irfanview. This screen is horrible, so please excuse if they don't look quite right on yours. I'll have to wait until I get home to mess around with them. These were my first pics with the A70-210mm. The last pic was taken with the kit lens...

Great pictures that brought back some very good memories. You're right about not much litter, and Stewart mentioned that there has been more in recent years (I left there in 1988). Other things you won't see (at least I never did) are trailer parks, roadside billboards, and slums. There were run-down places, but not like some of the slums stateside.

Questions about your pics. Did you use a tripod on the 2 inside the church/cathedral? Actually, did you use a tripod on any of them? Thanks!

Great series of shots Maxwell. Beautiful sharp images with good colours/contrast. Great compositons and good exposures in some difficult situations. Were the second and third series also mainly taken with your 70-210?

Great pictures!

I really enjoyed viewing my country through the eyes of a foreign traveller. And I would never have thought that at this time of the year, with no snow and no green, images that great can be made. Congrats!

Nope, no tripod on any of these pics. I left it home thinking my brother-in-law had one.....he didn't, so everything I shot was hand-held.

Thanks, Paul. All of these images were taken with either the A35-70 or A70-210. The interior church shots were with the A35-70 wide open at F3.5. Most of the shots in Nienburg were with the A70-210, as were the park shots in Mannhein. The pics from Bamberg and Strasbourg were all taken with the A35-70. I took the 18-55 kit lens, A50/1.7 and Quantaray 70-300 but never really used them walking around. I shot a few indoor portraits with the A50/1.7, but the 70-300 never left my bag. The A70-210 is a MUCH better lens and I saw no need to compromise sharpness for the added reach. Hence, the 70-300 was recently sold on eBay....
