Sunset on Snow

There was a LOT of Post Processing involved in this. Ask, and I'll post the method.

This was 2 exposures, one at 1/5 for the snow, and one at 1/10 for the sunset. I set them as Layers in the same image, and painted a Layer Mask so the sunset layer only showed that. Then, I blurred the edges of the mask to ensure a smooth transition. Next, I brightened up the snow a bit with Curves, and went through the image to clean up dust. PEFs converted in RawTHERAPEE, and editing done in Gimp. So far, I have not paid for any of the software I'm running on my computer. Since I use Ubuntu, I haven't even had to pay for Windows.

The reflection in the window catches my eye, that is a nice touch and balance to the sweep of the sky. I think your post processing works very well here. There is incredible detail and color everywhere in this image and I like that. Some would say it isn't what the eye could see, but I'd say it's what my eye WANTS to see!

Great shot! What interests me most is the subtle colours on snow and the wall. They are not the easiest to catch and requires waiting for the perfect moment!
