Fantastic! Great subject! Great photography! I sincerely appreciate your making the effort to share this photo commentary on a fantastic subject! Well done!

Interesting bow! Almost looks like a hull upside down! Image that's so the ship can get in close to the oil rigs?

Its called an Axe Bow. The idea is for the bow to go through an oncoming wave rather than ride up over it as would happen with a more typical bow. It reduces the pitching motion of the vessel.

Thanks for the explanation! Without seeing the ship at sea....I would have never guessed! Does it have a bulbous bow as well?

Fantastic photos.......

Thanks for Your comments

No, no bulb. Is not at part of the Axe-bow design.

Great shots and very interesting. What are those booms coming out of the bow for (with the cables hanging down)?

Hallo,

The booms are there to disperse a liquid, which dissolves the oil, if an oil disaster should happen. They will hopefully never be used

Love the pictures. The generally odd shape reminds me of this rather bizarre looking superyacht:

Great set! Your pictures are inspiring!

I see you used the Tamron 18-250, and it looks like that lens was helpful in getting many fantastic shots at different focal lengths. I recently picked up a copy of the 18-250 (the DA version) and this is exactly the type of stuff I was imagining it could be used for. Nice to see it in action.
