Kent - some old and new deer
Posted By: Tom Lusk, 02-20-2008, 05:43 PM

First- two shots from today.

#1 is of a doe. I have spent so much time with this doe over the fall and winter, she lets me get REAL close.

And then- finally a buck (of course at a distance and in harsh light). But at least it shows that they don't necessarily shed their antlers as soon as believed:

These are the kind of buck shots I used to take (when I could actually locate them):

and one of my favourites as it shows the habitat (bedding area) and light I usually find deer in:

Great pics!!! That doe is really a "deer" to let you get that close. Sorry, it was just too hard not to do this.

My word, they are fantastic. The 1st is beautiful. You must have an amazing amount of patience, hats off to you Deer seem to be such enigmatic and regal creatures, you have caught them well.

Tom,
FANTASTIC! Not many people can appreciate how hard these shots are to get. As one other poster on another forum would say--You done gooood. Good to see you posting again. You raised the bar again for me. I'll see if I can find any bucks next week.

Great shots Tom.
That last one is giving you the suspicious eye.
Fine looking set of racks on all of them...

Great pictures Tom. As Kent says, a lot of people do not realize how hard it is to get shots like this. Being a bow hunter I know how patient you have to be to get in range of deer like that. I can not wait till next year to get some killer photos. I may go out this spring and get some new born shots. I'm just not motivaited to go out right now and take deer shots right now, I hunted really hard this year and am a little burned out.

A great series Tom. Nice to see you posting again. 1 is a stunning shot and she's posing nicely for you. Is that the same Doe that gave you the snow/tongue sticking out shot? The last 2 are great as well. Love the look you're getting in that last shot!

Great shots Tom. Is that the same doe that had her face powdered earlier in the winter?

Hi Tom,

They are all wonderful... You have to have real skills and patience to get that close. The doe in that first shot kinda likes you I think.

The first and the last shots are my faves... They dont get much better than those.

Beautiful work.

Thanks, everyone!

I'm quite sure the doe is the same one I've been able to get close to before (the one with the tongue). Same general area and no other deer around.

I noticed this time, however that she has a fawn with her from last season and she seems to keep herself between me and it, until it gets a good distance away. Maybe this explains her letting me get within 15-20 feet.
