Wow! These birds are so stately, it's easy to forget how beautiful they are in motion!

Very nice!

What I do with flying birds is try to crop the image so that the bird appears to be able to fly into open space... So if say the birds is coming from the left, I will position the bird in the first third of the frame from the left leaving the right two thirds open for the bird to "fly into".
Just helps the photo look more natural.

That's all I would change with these.

I generally agree with the comment above, but I think of that in situations where the bird shots are a bit less interesting. I find all of these Egret shots quite good. I especially like the 2nd one, and the composition there suggests a take off, which it may or may not be, but it can be just as effective and thought provoking. I love shooting Egrets and Herons but I have to say, it is challenging for me to get nice action shots with them. I usually struggle to fit their wing span into the shots and to anticipate what they may do. ARound my location, they aren't very shy and so they often let me get what I'd consider too close before moving, and I never get the timing right.

Nice shots.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Most of these were shot unplanned, as there seemed to be a territory dispute between some egrets and a GBH (the GBH won). I was trying to follow them as they squawked about the marsh. I hear you about getting the wingspan in the shot, sometimes I get too much!

Great action shots! It's hard to get the right balance between freezing the motion for sharpness and blurring it.
