Hairy woodpeckers are decent size.

The mature hairy woodpecker is about the size of a bluejay. The downeys are smaller and are a bit more friendlier around people. I see the red bellied woodpecker from time to time but never when the camera is set up.--charliezap

What a lovely shot of the hairy woodpecker. It makes me think I need to rotate my suet feeder to capture a better side shot of one of the woodpeckers.

Once I had a hairy and a downy on the same suet feeder simultaneously and the size difference really was distinct. The downy looked like so tiny in comparison. By the time I grabbed my camera, they were both gone.
