Iceland on Steroids

Going through some of these a third time and picking out some that, while I liked the foreground and subject, had really awful, boring skies. So I took some liberties. This shot is not for everyone, I know.

The shot makes me keep coming back and looking again so there is something there. I think it is the rock formation, but it is a very interesting sky.

Thanks for looking, aussietrev. A bit of an unusual shot, like a donut with too much sugar or something, but maybe an acquired taste?

I like the sky but to me it's hard to get a perspective on the size of the other elements.--charliezap

Thanks Charlie, fair comment. I wish there was something there for scale. The rock spires are around 40 feet high as I remember.

I think your image is really well done and I find the size of the rock spires quite dramatic. Very very nice!

I like it, and I'm sure there a heap of other angles here, but it's probably best to leave before those pesky Orcs turn up.
Regards

Thanks Sam... it does look like someplace hobbits might go doesn't it?

It's awesome. Has very nice color and composition but it also looks "fake". I think it's because the light on the clouds and the light on the land seems to be coming from different directions and they look like different times of day.

It IS a substitute sky, good eye! The picture was taken in overcast conditions in the early morning. After I got home, this was a throwaway shot during editing, but I thought to give it one more try - I wanted to add some life to the scene so I layered in this sky from another picture. I find that doing this can really make an otherwise old tired picture come to life.
