Longhorn Caverns
Posted By: Bob Harris, 01-20-2013, 11:09 PM

from our travels:
Longhorn Caverns was created over thousands of years by the dissolving and cutting action of water on the limestone bedrock of the area. Fossil remains show that many Ice Age animals once occupied the cave. Viewing the caverns seems like you are viewing abstract art in 3D, quite surreal.
The earliest records indicate that the Comanche Indians were the first to use the cavern. They came in about 400 years or so before anyone else did. In more recent history, the cavern was used as a Confederate stronghold where gunpowder was manufactured in secret during the Civil War. The cavern is also rumored to have been the hideout of Sam Bass, a legendary Texas outlaw.

Excellent job Bob. I haven't been to Longhorn Caverns in 30 years. I may make it back there soon. Are you camping here in Central Texas or are these photos from the past?
Thanks,

Interesting stuff Bob. Looks like you had your point 'n' shoot. I'd like to go into a cave like this and shoot some macros of the cave formations.
I took some closeups and you can't really figure out what they are of, even got a couple of pics of sleeping bats up close.

you'll have to take a daytrip up there Jer, Hill Country and the Boxster would be a perfect match.
