Good series Norm."Feed them and they will come."I finally got a decent shot of the red bellied woodpecker today that I will be posting shortly and it was off the cuff with the Pentax 18-250 lens through the window.--charliezap

Thanks for the comment Cee Cee. The Red Squirrels would probably work for peanuts... but we don't really like red squirrels at our feeders. They eat even more than Blue Jays.

Yes Ramsey, lots of variety here. The odd thing is what birds we have changes from year to year. This year it's redpolls, and Pine Grosbeaks. Other years it's been Grosbeaks and Goldfinches. One year it was Purple Finches, but no redpolls or goldfinches. What ever is here at the start of the winter, seems to stay with us through the whole winter. This year one of our Blue jays is sticking it out with us. We had six young ones in the neighbourhood but most of them left. One is spending the winter with us. I guess for most people they'd think a feeder is pretty much the same all the time, but it's an endless source of amusement, and change.

ANyway, I know Tess will say I should start a new thread for this but I finally got the Females Pine Grosbeak this morning.

Oops this is an immature male, I'm still looking for a good shot of the female.

What a huge variety!! I thought birds came down here during the winter, but it appears otherwise. Great shots, Norm.

Thanks Jer, I know our loons head south and all the water birds... except for the Golden Eyes. And they are out in the river and very difficult to photograph. The Finches (lots of varieties) , Blue Jays and Crows, Chickadees and Nuthatches and Woodpeckers seem to be here all winter. The sparrows, phoebes and fly catchers however are gone.

We have a lot of red breasted nuthatches this year as opposed to normal. And my father in law has a yellow bellied sapsucker at his feeder, first I've ever seen. They sure do vary from year to year.

A sapsucker in the winter? Definitely unheard of around here.

I couldn't agree more. I get so much enjoyment from watching birds at the feeders in my backyard. Their antics and the different birds that show up in the different seasons always is something for me to enjoy.

I've been enjoying your bird pictures. They are so good. I look forward to more!

Thanks for the comment, the nice thing is, everytime I look out the window there could be something new there. Just too often I spook them before I get a picture.

Thanks, Norm - that explains it. I've lived here for 17 years and - until now - I never understood why there are so many loons running around Texas.
