I'm intrigued with images that blend the real and the abstract. Ones that merge fact and fiction into one compelling work. I find it evocative and think that it speaks metaphorically to how differently we all see the world. We can agree on facts but argue endlessly over interpretation.

I made this image in Yachats on the Oregon coast. It was my first and only Explore on flickr.

I welcome your thoughts and criticisms.

Marcus

Like the colouring and the concept as it reminds me of late sunset on the ocean.

Very nice - I had a conflicting series of reactions to the image. The trick is, that's the point!! Well done.

Interesting. How did you pull this off, if I may ask? Because I like the colours and general composition, but I would like to see a little more definition in the beach/rocks. Right now its like I am in a car and driving past a sunset, and I just want to stop and enjoy the view lol

This is a simple ICM (intentional camera movement) technique. I use spot metering and meter the brightest part of the image, then set the shutter speed for about 1/8 to 1/2 a second. Once you have the exposure dialed in, it is just a matter of movement and trail and error. I usually take multiple images as you never quite know how it is going to turn out. In this one I simply panned left to right to produce the bands of color. It's a fun technique and I encourage you to give it a try.

Thanks for commenting,

Marcus
