When two Photographers get together.
Posted By: Photo Tramp, 02-24-2008, 02:11 AM

First I want to thank Brendan (brendanPK) for coming up to see me. We had a nice time just talking and people watching at the local mall. I know both of us wish they allowed cameras in the mall. It is such a great place to do random shooting. (with a camera of course). Later in the evening Brendan did some teaching on strobe lighting. I was never any good with a strobe before (not to say that I am now either.) With the tricks Brendan showed me I saw a dramatic change in the way my strobe shots were coming out. Just a few tweaks and he had me understanding more about lighting placement of remotes. So I'll post some of the pictures I think came out well.

Thanks again Brendan.

If you don't know who the model is, May I present our own BrendanPK.

He also helped me with a few tweaks and suggested changes to this shot which really did make the shot on that stands out.
Thanks again Brendan.

I promise one day I will get out your way Dave. These are some nice sharp well exposed shots. Looks like you will be having some fun with lights. I have to say, I prefered the shot of the women in B&W (but that is me)

Very sharp shots and interesting lighting Dave. What lens were you using? I can take a guess but why don't they allow cameras in the mall?

Nice shots, and I like the Pentax shirt. What is the significance of the 14.6?

I'm guessing it has something to do with the new K20.

That is the exact number of pixels the new K20D has.

Wonderful time you have there. Seems like a great time. Strobe lighting is fun and you did some shots of brendan really well

Hi all I just found this thread! lol
Yeah it was a good time
Lighting was done by 2 meathods, a disfused 540 set to manual power (1/16th) in a home-made difusion box. Triggered by slave function w/ a promaster set to manual lowest power bowncing off the celing to trigger the 540.
The second headshot of me had a white folder on the shadow side to bounce in some more light (note the slight cetch in the eye)

The 14.6 shots were done w/ a undifused 540 places up hi, zoomed to the max zoom, pointing down to give a hard light. Triggered the same way.

Stuff like this is what I will be teaching if we get the gathering together in June/July https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/general-talk/21324-spring-summer-east-coast-gathering.html
Rember Flash is ok, just use it better. bounce it off walls, trigger a side-light etc.

Go to PMA you can get the shirts there. The rest I find on ebay.
I also have a pentax vest hats etc. Some from Pentax (you can get them at the online store) others from ebay etc.

I may make up a special one for the gathering
