I've been trying to get a shot like this for a while now. I took this (hand held) from the front seat of my truck yesterday morning while the Grey Jay's were feeding on cracker crumbs I threw out for them.

Outstanding! I know firsthand how difficult it is to get a shot like this. Well done!

Thanks guys. These birds are harder to catch in flight than I expected.

I'm in a small town called Ilford which is located between Thompson and Gillam. Basically the middle of nowhere.

Never been there, but I've heard of it. Again...a wonderful shot. As it happens I was out in Eastern Manitoba...Vivian, Elma...got a pix of a Grey Jay also and a first...a Great Gray Owl....but this last pix was obscured by a telephone cable.

Oh my! How beautiful!! Love the exposure on the snow, the blue sky and of course your Gray Jay. There is a Gray Jay program in Algonquin Park as climate change and logging has seriously altering their habitat and ability to make it thru the winter on stored food. They are banded, numbered and friendly. Love your shot

Again, thank you to everyone for the very kind words.
The gray jay is on of the more common birds in Northern Manitoba and depending on the cold, they usually are around all year round. They are pretty timid but I have been able to hand feed them when I last went to Churchill.

Lovely capture of a grey jay. I love the contrast between the snow and the strong blue sky.

I think I've driven past Ilford. Many years ago we were headed from Saskatoon to The Pas for the sled dog races and I seem to remember spotting a road sign saying Ilford. I recall being surprised as I was a recent immigrant from England and Ilford was near my home!
