Ice below
Lens: Pentax F 70 - 210 f/4 Camera: K5 Photo Location: The woods of South Algonquin, Ontario ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 3s Aperture: F16
Posted By: tessfully, 02-13-2013, 06:45 AM

During a sudden February melt one of the little streams that runs through the woods bubbled up and flooded parts of the forest. When it turned to freezing temps again the top part of the stream froze but water continued to flow underneath till it abated. Walking on top of this ice meant on occasion suddenly crashing though into the hollows left by the receding water. After one of my crashes I noticed how cool the hanging ice formations looked inside vacant ice cave. I went back several times trying to capture a shot.

I tried three lenses and every setting imaginable. This is the only one I got that turned out okay. I am lying on my stomach camera resting on my gloves, lens pointing inside the cave.

The shutter speed should read 0.3000s

thanks for having a look

I like that there isn't a real perspective on this photo, reminds me of those huge ice caves I have seen. Laying in the snow on your stomach, you're amazing. I guess that is why you come up with so many great photos on the forum, you'll try anything and often more than once.
