A pair of Northern flickers has taken to dining at my bird feeders.

Mmmmm..animal fat!

They're rather shy and wary, so I moved the bird feeders closer to the kitchen window so that they've become somewhat accustomed to me standing so close. So accustomed that they just stick a tongue out at me now.

Beautiful birds. I haven't seen them at my feeders for a while. They provide some great subjects. Colorful and very photogenic.

Thanks, everyone! I'm glad you enjoyed them. The flickers aren't the flashiest birds but still one of my favorites. A few days ago, shortly after I took these, all the birds seemed to disappear. Flickers, Jays, Starlings. Everything. I went out to refill the feeders (an at least daily occurrence) and found a bunch of grey feathers scattered under the tree. Uh oh... I finally spotted a sharp shinned hawk nearby. Good news! This afternoon the female flicker was back dining here at Chez Birdseed. I suspect that it was one of the Mourning doves the hawk caught.
