the Egret??
Posted By: Bob Harris, 02-18-2013, 10:08 PM

We were so surprised to see this, what I believe is a Great Egret, in the Arizona desert near Ehrenberg. We were on the Colorado River Indian Reservation and noticed him wading in a flooded farm field. Normally this is the land of the raven and the white bird was quite easy to spot. Photo cropped heavily, but still presentable

The terms are basically interchangeable. The Great Egret you have here is in the same genus as the Great Blue Heron, for example. Good spotting and nice shooting; I guess Great Egrets like the Arizona desert in winter for the same reasons fulltime RVer's do.
Didn't realize that Jeff, yes we have the "Great Grey Ol' Farts" variety that roosts here.

Definitely Great Egret, a pretty commonly seen bird in the salt marshes around here in the summer. Lovely.
thanks for the info, something I haven't noticed down this way in the past, guess they are just migrating through

thanks Dave, it was a quick handheld shot at distance, so I was happy with the results.
