Bobcat Breakfast
Lens: Pentax Camera: Pentax K-5 Photo Location: Tucson ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F8

I meet up with a Bobcat this morning eating a rabbit for breakfast. I was backing up to frame a shot and looking over my shoulder saw him about 12 feet away! He didn't pick up his meal and leave, instead he let me take some shots....great fun!

Great shots. I never saw a bobcat in the wild during my year in Tucson (84-85 - that's a long way back now!). But I used to jog in Sabino Canyon some mornings. I saw mule deer occasionally. But one morning there was a rustle in the bushes right beside me and a gray fox cub popped out. Then two, three and four. They were less than ten feet from me. No camera of course. Then I saw Mom just a little above them on the bank watching. Great moment. I went back every day for a while with the MX and eventually caught one of the cubs on slide film using a Takumar 135/f2.5 (I remember because it was the only telephoto I possessed back then ).
But I love your bobcat -well done!
Give my regards to Tucson!

At one point a large dog came by and chased the Bobcat up a tree, tasted the rabbit and then left. The cat came back down, finished eating and let me take more pictures. I had the "A 50mm 1,4 " on at first, while the cat was in the tree I switched to the 18-250 but then switched back to the old 50 for the best shots (above) of the day. Here are some more shots, not good at all but they help tell the story.

What a great series of shots. Not sure I wouldn't have been more scared of the dog. You are not only lucky to have been in the right place at the right time but to have the skill to pull off the shots. Well done.
