First attempt at Product Photography
Lens: DA* 60-250mm F4 or DA* 55mm F1.4 Camera: Pentax K-5 ISO: 200

So this is nothing official, but I bought some new headphones (thank you tax returns!) and I just wanted to try out shooting some stuff like it was commercial work using a white backdrop. My setup was this:

Light stand leaning over against a chair with a 28" Westcott Softbox, Nikon SB80 flash and 2 pocketwizrds. An old poster that I just turned over to expose the white glossy side and some masking tape :P

And here are a few shots.

Headphones in box:
DA* 55mm F1.4 (55mm F8 1/160th ISO:200)

One Side Down
DA* 60-250mm F4 (220mm F13 1/160 ISO 400)

Folded Flat
DA* 60-250mm F4 (118mm F13 1/160 ISO 400)

Side Profile with Logos
DA*60-250mm F4 (153mm F6.3 1/160 ISO 100)

Just want to get some opinions on whether or not it works

No expert by any means.....but it works very well for me. Great work! Hopefully you're getting paid.

Haha, no pay. I just did this for fun in my room on a dresser. I just wanted to know if anyone thought it was semi-believable.

I am no expert either but like the clean lighting. Thanks for the first shot that includes the setup. That is a huge help!

Great shots! And thanks for the pictures of your setup. It's always nice to see the setups involved behind the scenes of actual pictures. I just got my first flash this week and I've been itching to play around with it. Just gotta wait for those stupid triggers.

I saw a cheap yet seemingly effective macro/product photography setup on the strobist blog a while back. Maybe you will find it useful to add some variety and try new techniques for future product shots.

Keep it up! ^_^

As a "for practice fun shoot" the lighting is pretty good. The devil is in the details with product shots, however. Those details are things such as cut sealing tape, upside down or cut off words, etc.

Yeah....I couldn't help it...I got those things out of the packaging as fast as I could just to put them on and listen to them lol. There's a reflection of the blue tape in the boxed shot as well, but all things considered it's not too bad. If my dad starts selling some of his N-Scale train stuff off I told him I'd phtograph the stuff for him so he's not using shots from his cheap point and shoot. Give him more of a professional look :P
