These are really wonderful. The colors in the last one especially blew me away. I have no idea how you manage to get so close to these insects. You DOF is spot on too. I think the fly needs a haircut.

Super! I will definitely work with this lens this year! Not sure I can match this, though...

Flash reflection on the first image tells me you were using a ring flash. Care to share which one was it?

Thanks all for the comments. Ducdao, I use a Sunpak DX-8R. These were taken right after a rain, and the flash reflects in the wet spots. You can also see it in the water bubble under the fly's butt. And on the back of the hoverfly. I think the reflections sometimes distract from the image, and I have cloned it out in some shots, but didn't take the time to do it on these.
