My first owl!
Lens: Tamron 70-200 2.8 Camera: K-5
Posted By: treebeard, 02-24-2013, 05:03 PM

My hearing may be going but not my eyesight. I cloned out the branches in front of his face. He stared at me the whole time. It's not a wallhanger, but I am glad I finally got a shot of one these guys. Out of 20 images 5 of them actually came out in focus....sometimes the K-5 amazes me.

That's a great shot. I hear them - but try as I can - no pictures.

Seems to be a Barred Owl availability on the east coast. This guy was hanging around the neighborhood last fall. Somebody figured out he/she was injured and got him/her to the right raptor recovery. Heavy shade, low light, fuzzy bird. Kept an eye on me

Congrats on finding the owl. That is a shot to be proud of considering the circumstances. I am amazed that anyone gets a photo of one.

You're hooked now. They are an amazing bird but taking photos of them can get really addictive. Have fun. I know I do. Took me three months for this gal to let me get this close.

Yeah she sits at that same pole everyday. About 3 months ago her mate was hit by a semi truck. He was swooping across the road and was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I swear she's sitting there crying. Took a lot of walks down the road before she stopped flying off as soon as I got out of my truck, Would love to see her against a better background but at least I can get up to her now. They are truly amazing birds. I am going to hate seeing her go but she should head north come spring. Not sure what she'll do with no mate but I hope she comes back. Makes the trip home from work a special part of the day.

Nice shots there, all of you! I once heard and spotted an owl on an evening stroll, but I only had a 14mm prime on me, so I couldn't get.. well, anything resembling an owl. You did good, the foreground isn't bothersome either, it just adds to the intimacy of the shot
