I've been practicing on some close-up shots with the aperture wide open lately since one of my problems i've found is incorrect use of DOF... I sort of like this set of shots and I was wondering if you guys could C&C on them. =)

All shots were taken with a 40/2.8 ltd, although I can't remember which of these were taken with a close-up filter. Hehe.

I'm guessing you've tried to get an abstract pattern in the background of the first shot. Good effort, but I think it looks a tad busy to work 100 percent. Not that it's a bad shot by any means; just not quite "there".

I like number 2 a whole lot better, but would maybe have angled the shot to get the fruit to lead the eye across the interesting fuzzy background a bit more, and the blemish on the bottom leaf is maybe a bit distracting.

I love the fence -- that's a great capture and the faint colour of the lichen makes it a winner, in my book.

Four is a good photo too. Doesn't quite work as well as the previous one but I'm not good enough at this to figure out why.
