Not so sexy new speaker
Posted By: thomasjmpark, 02-28-2008, 09:05 AM

Hi,
Got my new speakers today. Got them out the box and the 1st thing I noticed was how much wider they are, will have to think about placing them a bit further away which meens relocating my desk! The 2nd thing i noticed is that they are not as sexy as my old(er) ones but never judge a speaker by its look, I guess.

Plugged them in and wacked on a tune with the heaviest bass that i know of. Well, I was blown away, almost had to peel myself off the rear wall! Incredible sound, the high frequency isnt quite as subtle as my Alesis but all in all these are superb, and once they are broken in a bit they should only get better

Wrong!!! Power means nothing. Efficiency is where it's at and these shouldn't need that much power.

Case in point: I have Cerwin-Vega floorstanding speakers (3 way design - 12" bass, 4" midrange, 1" tweeter) running off a 30W RMS/channel Yamaha amp. I've never taken the volume past half, because that's when the windows audibly rattle and annoy me.

Fair enough (I think I must have better windows though, just kidding!)
