Usually we take pictures of the birds at our feeders, today we thought we'd go for some gray jays in the park, but all I got was more chickadees. - Oh well, you could do worse

You also have to have wall space for all those frames. Getting a frame around here doesn't guarantee wall space.

No, black capped, there are boreals around, I've heard them but haven't seen them. I was in a group of 80 recently and the guys at the front of the line saw them, but they were gone before the back of the line got there.

They've already started getting ready for mating and spring.

There is an area of the park frequented by birders, where there's a parking lot that's cleared year around. It seems to be a sort of unspoken rule of all those who take bird pictures that you go there and take a "bird plate". A plate consisting of seed, black oil sun flower seeds, some bread and cheese chopped into small pieces, for the bigger birds. Some have even seen pine martins raid the plate.

You just have to find the right place to go, and know the secret password to use to call them when you get there. You get the secret password when you go on a tour with the park staff. It's a sound you make that attracts the bigger birds. We only got a few of those yesterday, so, we settled for Chickadees.

You set your plate in the snow out of site... and the birds come and land in the trees nearby before they swoop down and and grab something from the buffet. It's still tricky getting the shot you want, they don't stay still very long, but nothing like what trying to get the pictures in the bush would be like.

You see people there with big huge long lenses and camouflage on, as well as kids and families just out to see the birds.
