This is an example of a Shepard’s hut as used in the Highlands of Scotland. Cape Breton Island, (named from the French), Nova Scotia, Canada, resembles the Scottish Highlands. Nova Scotia is said to mean “New Scotland” in Latin. However the Romans called Scotland “Caledonia”. MacDonald “Lord of the Isles” sailed out of Ireland to inhabit and rule “Caledonia” .John Cabot (Venetian: Zuan Chabotto; c. 1450 – c. 1499) was an Italian navigator and explorer. In 1497 he "discovered" of parts of North America under the commission of Henry VII of England.

I hitched hike to Cape Breton one summer for something to do. Times have changed but that area remains the same.

Thanks for the great narrative, love these thatched roofs, not sure how they stand up in the heavy snows. We noticed in Idaho there were several barns that had a thatch type roof on them, they were basically dugouts but unique to view. Nice shot here, tfs,
