Why you have to have a macro
Lens: Sigma 70 macro 2.8 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Whitney, Ontario, Canada ISO: 800

Because you have a shot like this, and you ask yourself, "Self ???? ... What can I do with that? "

And the answer is, if you have a mcaro that goes to 1:1, you can do this

Or all the other shots that follow...

If you don't have a macro lens it's just a drab ho hum day... with a macro, you have endless possibilities.

TFS, Normhead. A really inspiring series!*

(Note to myself: take the dust off the 90mm and the 35mm and get out asap)

Oddly enough, I just picked up the Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro.

Good stuff, Norm!

Great macro work with the sig 70. I like the last image the best. The mozaic in the leaf and the eye crystals is really nice.

Very true and a wonder demonstration of the power of a good macro lens.

Thanks, I really like the Tammy 90, it's great lens too, I don't have shorter macros.

Are you asking myself or yourself, you didn't differentiate.

I went back and forth between that 105 and the 70, but ultimately, I wanted to fill teh gap in my primes between 70 and 90, we have a 135 so 105 just seemed less important.

One of the interesting things about macros is you get home andthere's something in the photo you didn't see when you took it. Like that mosaic in the leaf. I looked at it, and checked to see if it has somehow gotten pixelated or something.

I can sympathize, Tessfully confiscated my Tamron 90, which I found on kijiji and drove 4 hours to pick up. Even if I wasn't using it, I still had to find her and ask her for it, as it was always in her camera bag, not mine. Finally I just broke down and ordered the Sigma 70 macro. It's different enough to be worthwhile, but, it was a little costly compared to the 90.

There are times when it would be nice if the spouse shot Nikon or Canon or something. ( Bite your tongue.)
