A day at Wala pt 2
Camera: K-7 Photo Location: Wala - Vanuatu
Posted By: Bruce Clark, 03-07-2013, 04:22 AM

Second group of photos from our day at Wala.

Our tour information advised us that cannibalism was practiced on these island until fairly recent times (mid 1900s). I have little doubt that this effigy served as a warning to unwary visitors.

All along the beachfront the villagers have collected bits and pieces and arranged them into little displays. Nothing goes to waste and one sees all sorts of bits and pieces used in some decorative manner.

A piece of driftwood decorated with seaweed.

The rotor of a discarded electric motor arranged in a little coral garden. This is possibly the only electric motor on the island.

Further along the beachfront, I found these bits which one day would likely be picked up and added to the collections.

A coral ball

A half coconut

I could have spent days wandering along the beach.

More to come.

Very enjoyable series. That character in the first shot would certainly dissuade me.

nice beach wanderings, I would use caution so I didn't become a quick snack from an old timer in the village.
