Spring must finally be here! I was out for a walk with the dog today and I saw a few crocuses (croci?) pushing their way up out of the ground. This guy was the only one open, so I got up close and personal with him. I love the look of the stigma on this one, it reminds me of the crystal structures that gold forms. Looking at it on my computer screen, I realize I could have used a few more millimeters of depth of field but I still like the overall picture.

Very nice, well lit and beautiful color. At that magnification depth of field is going to be very shallow even at small apertures, so don't worry about it! Or look into focus stacking.

Thanks baro-nite! I've attempted focus stacking before, but I've never had any success, likely due to shooting handheld I'll have to bring a tripod along next time!

Handheld stacking is doable, although depending on the stacking software and stacking method may require ordering the shots front-to-back (or the reverse) before sending it through. I've had the best luck when shooting with my elbows braced. Usually I use a tripod, though.

Lovely colors. Mother Nature sure knew what she was doing when she put that gold next to the purple.

The colour is so good, I can forgive the DoF. I find it is very difficult to get it right when hand held and who carries a tripod everywhere?

Thanks for looking and commenting, guys. I'm going to go back with my tripod and try some focus stacking!
