Chapel of the Holy Cross
Lens: 70mm ltd Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Sedona, Arizona
Posted By: Bob Harris, 03-08-2013, 11:27 PM

The concept of the chapel came to Marguerite Bruswig Staude a New Yorker, in 1932.
While traveling through Sedona, she was struck by the beauty of the area and decided that this chapel should be built here. “This would be a monument to faith, but a spiritual fortress so charged with God, that it spurs man's spirit godward".
Built on a twin pinnacled spur about 250 feet high, jutting out of a red rock wall, "solid as the Rock of Peter" the building of the Chapel was completed in April 1956.

Wow - that "red" rock sure pops in this one, buddy. Nice job, as usual.

I had some harsh light for this photo Jer, but it does enhance the reds, filter added.

My grandparents lived here when I was a kid and I have always enjoyed the fabulous formations and color here. Thanks Paul for viewing.

Thanks for the story about the chapel. I saw it when I went through a couple of years ago. Very cold, frozen fountains etc, but did not feel particularly cold, even in fairly light clothes.

Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon is a favorite of our camping areas, so much beauty especially after the tourists have left.
