Mayan Ruins - 10 shot tour of Coba
Lens: DA* 16-50 Camera: K5 Photo Location: Coba, Mexico
Posted By: daacon, 03-12-2013, 08:59 AM

We spent a few hours seeing the Mayan ruins in Coba. Now a few years ago we were in Chichen Itza and if given the choice and you could only choose one, its a no brainer - Chichen Itza is by far a more impressive Mayan ruin site.

That said what Coba offered is the ability to actually climb the last temple so that was very cool. (You use to be able to in Chichen Itza until some lady fell and took out a few other people , they all died from what I understand)

It was a cool day on the coast so it was a great day to go inland and spend some time.

Some of the initial ruins , some reconstructed , some left as discovered.

A wasps nest - definitively Myan and nasty
#3

Some sort of game the arena much smaller here than in Chichen Itza
#4

This was what they called the white road (white rocks) and was a trail all the way to Chichen Itza (about 100km)

More ruins

Now we get a look at the last temple which as you can see you are allowed to climb up. Up was not so bad - coming down was much harder and a little scary

Wow... really enjoyed the view Dave. Thanks for the information too. It must be great having new and wondrous things to shoot. Love the perspective of the people climbing and descending that temple.

I enjoyed the series. In the last photo, I think/imagine I see Chichen Itza in the distant horizon.

This is where I say " You're so high up those people look like ants.."
And you say "I was standing on the ground, those are ants."

Thanks for posting, very interesting perspective.

The one Maya place I haven't seen (around the Riviera). Thank you for sharing these.

Thanks for the tour of Coba.
I've only been to Chichen Itza and Tulum when out there.
Seems Coba is less developed from a tourism perspective, would you agree?
I like the rope assist for the steps.

That trip down does look scary Dave. Loved going on this trip with you. Where to next? Back to the beach - it is almost time for happy hour.

Very nice! It's always great to be able to explore. It's especially nice before a site becomes too "touristy". As soon as that happens, I stay away.

Enjoyed it. With my knee, I doubt I will ever see that view from the top even if I make it there.
