Crawdad eye view
Lens: Pentax FA 100-300 Camera: K-r

This is what a crawdad sees. Usually the last thing it sees.

The black-crowned night heron is a "long legged wading bird" but there were six of them snoozing in trees at the local park.

Kids, don't try this at home. At least have an umbrella. Do you know what happens when they wake up?

Great title for those first shots. My guess is they're getting ready for reproduction. There's a colony around here that should be arriving in the next several weeks.

Just amazing shots - especially @300mm - how do you get so close to them?

These are the kind of shots I strive for but my locals would never let me get that close.

Great shots. Agree with stormtech, the same bird in my location is very skittish and I would never get this close.

Thanks for the kind words. I think my ability to get so close is due to geographic fortune. The lake is ideal for feeding (shallow, rocky bottom) but is in the middle of the city so it's a long way for them to find anyplace else to roost. The trees along the lake are either deciduous (bare this time of year) or some small junipers. The junipers are situated along a footpath so the birds are accustomed to people nearby.

Wow, so close, I don't think I've ever been eyeball to eyeball with anything in the wild as you were, amazing.
