Some zoo shots with K20
Posted By: davemdsn, 03-01-2008, 06:19 PM

A Tamarin at 1600 ISO, shot through dirty glass...

Boa at 1600 ISO, shot through dirty glass (reflection can be see in the image)

My family at 100 ISO.

None of these has been sharpened or had noise reduction applied. The shot of my family at 100% is very detail rich.

Hi Dave,
There's no test or review to compare with this type of hands on shooting experience, and it all looks pretty damned good to me.....and I'm only viewing on the 5 yr old laptop.

Thanks for posting.

Nice and clean images. Especially the skin tone of the child.

Great sharp colourful shots. Amazing IQ at 1600. Which lens were you using?

Thanks for all the comments.

Lens was the Pentax DA 16-45. I don't think this lens can be beat for the price it can be had for. A little short for a walk around but it is a great lens. I am looking forward to the 17-70 f4.

Kim, we actually just got in a pair of Red Pandas a few weeks ago. I saw a pair at the National Zoo in DC a few months ago and thought I would never see one again. They are quite beautiful, but I have not gotten a good shot of the ones here yet.

I am very pleased with this camera. I wish I could have gotten it for less, but I guess Pentax has to pay off the R&D for that new sensor somehow. I was going to return it to the store if I didn't like it. I'm keeping it.

I was just looking at the website last night actually and noticed the Red Panda area and thought that would be cool.. I see a Zoo visit in my near future for sure.. Thanks so much for sharing those...

I don't blame you... It definately is a sweet camera... Is it full manual like the k10?

P.S. are you going to the Idaho camera ghost town thing next weekend?

Update on the Tamarin image (no. 1)....

I had a 11x14 print made today at the local camera shop. It looks at least as good as it does on screen at about 50% and way better then on screen at 100%. It looks like a fine grained 35mm film print, and it was shot at 1600 ISO! No noise reduction was used.
