I am a brand new Pentax K10d user, just purchased it a week ago. I'm still experimenting and fiddling with this and that and learning what a remarkable instrument this camera is.

I took some pictures near sunset of the South Everett Marina. I used a polarizing filter with my DA 18-55 mm lens. I'm curious to know how I can lighten up some of the shadows in these photos.

The nitty details.
ISO= 100
f/5.6
Auto white balance
Everything else was on the green button, as I don't know enough yet to go beyond it.

That's a tough lighting situation. If you had given more exposure the highlights would have been blown out. With Adobe Photoshop Elements or Lightroom the shadows can lightened without blowing out the highlights. I took the liberty of attempting this, I hope you don't mind.

Thanks for showing me the difference. The photoshopped one looks so much better. Alas, I don't have Photoshop, but do have gimp. I'll muck around in it and see if I can't duplicate it. My new K10d is quite a remarkable camera. Lots to learn.
