Comet Panstarrs
Lens: Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM Macro II Camera: Pentax K-5 Photo Location: Jadranovo, Croatia ISO: 3200 Shutter Speed: 2s Aperture: F4

Image of comet C/2011 L4 Panstarrs taken from Jadranovo, Croatia, ond March 22nd. The image was created from stack of 9 single exposures of 1.6s at ISO3200 with Sigma 70-200 @ 200mm and f/4. After stacking was done with Deep Sky Stacker I only aded some contrast in Phothoshop to make comet "pop out". This is probably my last image of the comet, weather forecast for next 10 day is bad.

I'm not sure I understand what stacking does when the object (and presumably the lens' focus) is essentially an infinite distance away.
But it's interesting to see. Sorry to hear about the weather.
Thanks for sharing.

Tnx.

Stacking is a process of combining several images of same object, taken in short time span. Stacking images reduces noise and gives you more headroom to work with.

That's something I would like to try 'stacking' - very cool shot.

Nice image.

@ford, you might be thinking of focus stacking for macros. The type of stacking used by the OP works on a different principle, taking multiple faint images of the night sky and combining them for greater contrast, reduced noise, etc.

@daacon, there's free software called Deep Sky Stacker for astrophotography stacking.
