Great Blue Heron gaining altitude. He did not like the sound of the focus confirmation beep on the K-5 and took off. Taken at Berry Springs Park and Preserve, Georgetown, Texas.

Mike, I think this may be the first I have seen of one in flight, didn't realize the wingspan was that large. Very nice capture of a beautiful bird.

Bob, he is one of the larger GBHs I have seen. I estimate his wingspan at 5 feet. He must have plenty to eat from the spring feed lakes and marshes around here.

Very cool photo. We were at Back Bay NWR in Virginia Beach yesterday, and watched a Great Blue Heron for about 20 minutes, as it waded looking for fish. I was able to capture quite a few photos, but nothing as nice as yours.
