A few tropicals

A few images from a trip to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.

A ginger, Costus erythrophyllus, sometimes called blood ginger (the leaves are red on the underside)

Thanks, All! Susan, yes, I love the gingers, too! Some of them have very long-lasting flowers, but most of the Costus ("crepe" gingers) have very delicate, short-lived flowers. They often produce a fair number in succession but you get all the old, wilted stuff as well as the new, fresh flower. At home I would have tried to remove some of the wilted flowers but one can't do that to someone else's plants! (especially not in the rare plant conservatory at the botanical garden...)
