Rough-legged Hawk - first sighting in 2013 · **1 Like**

First sighting of the not-so-often seen Rough-legged Hawk this afternoon.
This is cropped quite a bit (58%) and I had to push the EV +0.3. ISO 640.
I had the Sigma 150-500 with me but this came too fast and I didn't have time to switch lens. Nonetheless, the DA*300/4 can accomodate some cropping.

Nice capture....those things really move. Looks like you still have some snow on the fields in Quebec. Same here on the prairies.....will spring ever come.

Well captured. Why oh why don't these birds let us know when they are coming so we can be ready with the right lens. The 300 didn't let you down though.

Yeah, we still have some snow left in some fields and today is another dull, overcast, easterly-wind day: not great for photos at a distance.

I saw another Rough-legged hawk this morning but it took off when I tried taking a shot by the roadside: it was a "morph" type --- much darker than the individual above.

Well, at least with the DA*300, one can crop and still get a decent image.
And you're right about "when" those birds should show up !!
