Workin' on our night moves
Lens: DA* 16-50 / DA 12-24 Camera: K5 Photo Location: Edmonton, Alberta
Posted By: daacon, 04-09-2013, 11:15 AM

Happened to be at my daughter's place late last night and had the camera gear with me. On the way home decided to stop and take some night shots of Edmonton Cityscape. A lot of these are more or less the same , but processed a little different. It's interesting the effects you can get. I tried an HDR as well (5 shot exposure) - have not been happy yet with the way it comes out, so I will keep trying. Most of these are 30s exposures.

It was relatively warm (-8C) I was there about 20 minutes in all. My hands were a tad 'frozen' but I do like night shooting. Hopefully it warms up as in the middle of summer I need to add a couple of hours to get this dark (latest sunset is around 10:30pm way past my bedtime ha!)

Number 5 is exceedingly nice looking! Then again, I also like the last one (number 7); kind of nice to see the trees dominate.

+1 on both of @tlong423 comments. #5 in particular just seems to capture all the right aspects of color and composition

I am so inspired to get outside at night after seeing this. I live in a small town so no big cityscapes like these. I really like these and more partial to #5 - nice work

What a fantastic series. I love the second one and the last one is really interesting. I also love the fact that the trees dominate as was already mentioned. Well done Dave.

Thanks Pat. We live in the burbs , but my daughter lives close to downtown. It's about a 30 minute drive for me and I don't find myself going into the city for much these days other than to photograph occasionally and visit her.

Thanks Susan I got lucky with the cars passing by as at that time of night (around 10:00pm) it's not an overly busy road.
