'Gator in the Swing-Set
Posted By: LaurenOE, 04-24-2013, 03:15 PM

So I get a call from my neighbor a few hours ago...

"Lauren! Lauren! there is an Alligator outside in our swing-set!!!"
Immediately I think it's a prank as my neighbor has 3 young boys who like to play/fish in the Lake my house sits on. While it's not uncommon to have 'Gators about, her house is pretty far from the Lake.

I say, "Give me a sec...I'll be right over...with my camera!"

As I near the swing-set, I see this...

As I get a little closer, I realize....oh...boy.

Then I realize it just got serious.

She was getting ready to have her kids go and play, when she glanced outside and saw the Gator.

A parent's worst nightmare living in Florida.

Cool, Lauren. We sometimes see these characters around here - I usually head the other way!

Jer
The Gator did not like the Police officer. It kept hissing and opening it's mouth. But then again, the officer was built like the Rock and as cute, but that is another story.

Wow, glad the kids didn't get sent out to make that discovery!

It would have been a tragedy. Their boys are in the 3-10 range and play around that set every day. It was something they would not have expected. The way Gators eat, is that they grab their prey, drag it to water, and hide it under water to soften it up.

I had nightmares last night going over the scenarios if that happened.

Can you imagine if after several weeks, a disappeared child's body washed up on our beach and we are their neighbors?

Public opinion on a rare chance a 'Gator got the child would be an uphill battle for my husband and I. People would have assumed something different/sinister happened.

Something like "To Kill a Mockingbird - Florida Episode" as people would jump to crazy conclusions!

Wow. I've seen them crossing the roads here in South Georgia, but can't remember seeing one in someone's yard.
