Not any more than the BLue Jays Charlie, we suspect this guy is "our" grackle. A couple of years ago, a grackle with a damaged wing spent the summer at our feeder. The only grackle there, the others had moved on. We was able to fly from a nearby tree to the feeder,but probably not a lot more.....by the end of the summer he was getting around again and was able to migrate. We think this is probably him, back for the third year. He doesn't stay the whole summer, but he does hang around for a week or two after the rest of his flock leaves.

You can take pictorialist rules of competition way to far.... they were invented for painters, not photographers. People tend to think they are more than suggestions, that they are somehow carved in stone and must be followed, including many judges over at PEF. All that really matters is, the image works or doesn't work. The rules of composition help you define why an image doesn't work, but aren't often very useful in defining why one does.
