Today's visitors...
Posted By: Tom Lusk, 01-10-2007, 03:37 PM

I was working from home today, but was please when several visitors distracted me.

First was this nuthatch:

Then a male downy woodpecker:

Then the first cardinal of the winter:

All comments and suggestions to improve these images much appreciated. Unfortunately, I managed to get all the birds in a backlit situation - no choice- so the BG's are washed out and detail suffered. I really dislike the square crop of the nuthatch shot, but wanted to include the photogenic (?) milkweed pod. All photos with K100 and FA*300.

Wow - awesome shots. I really like the colors - great background for some very colorful birds.

Great shots. The colour and the sharpness. I like all of them but love the first.

Cheers

It is like your in my back yard. All three of these have been visiting my feeders for a few months. I like all the shots and as you mentioned conditions are what they are and I think you did well with them. The nuthatch is the best of the bunch for me.

Nuthatch with empty milkweed pod is a great shot.
Somehow cardinals in the cold remind me of Christmas cards.
Thanks for these beauties.

The nuthatch and downey are very good but both cardinal shots are amazing. Very nicely done!
