Osprey, Herons, And More...
Lens: Sigma 300 2.8 Photo Location: Maryland
Posted By: joe.penn, 04-29-2013, 06:57 PM

Here are a few recent ones from out in and on the water, shot from watercrafts and marsh blinds...

Osprey

Greater Yellow Legs

Osprey

Osprey In Flight

These next three are part of a 5-pc set (two of the shots are omitted).

Don't see too many eastern blues around here so was happy to get a quick snap of this one.

A couple more Osprey's in flight.

A B&W of an Osprey after coming up empty.

Beautiful shots of the osprey, especially the last one!

What happened with the saturation in the heron shots??

JP

Edit: the heron shots are also very beautiful ... just wondering about the saturation.

The timing on those osprey shots was spot on and the results are fantastic. Enjoyed the series.

With the Heron shots, they were quite saturated from the camera before I boosted them - I started processing the 2nd one first and really wanted to get the water color spot on so started messing with the greens, after some trial and error I started boosting the saturation and got the greens and the yellows (eyes) I was looking for, wasn't sure about the blue though. I printed some proof's and took the proofs down to the gallery for review and they really liked the way they turned out so I printed the set of canvases and had them stretched/mounted and now they are up on the wall in the gallery. Also, the vignetting is helping to give them a very saturated appearance.

Great shots, and the 'focus' of the heron while approaching his prey is just fantastic,
I'm jealous...
