494ci Chevy producing *only* 750hp. This was the last of the naturally aspirated can-am cars.

Great shot, just can't help but wonder... when it rains, does it flood the engine.

I know that is a joke, but if it is sitting still, yes, yes it would. They put tennis balls in there between sessions to keep anything falling in.

Later cars, including this Shadow which I had only seen in books, used a twin turbo charged version of the same engine producing 1200 hp. I was born during the wrong age.

I was fortunate as I was a late teenager...young man during the late 60's...1970. I recall driving my not so old '67 Camaro Coupe RS, 327 V8, 4 speed Muncie to a Can Am race, in the 1960's. The Can Am cars were thunderous and the acceleration down the straight was astounding. Also at the race Trans Am was a big deal...Camaro Z28's, Mustang Boss 302's, Dodge Challenger's....even some AMC Javelins and AMX's....all race tuned.

Back in this muscle car era I had the opportunity to drive Corvettes ('62 + '63)....'69 Nova 396/375 HP....Plymouth GTX....440/375 HP.....etc....along with a lot of motorcycles.....British twins, Japanese performance bikes and European dirt bikes such as CZ's and Bultaco's.

It was the golden era of some wild performance machines.
