Squirrel at ISO1600
Posted By: Duh_Vinci, 01-10-2007, 05:07 PM

Ok, I'm on my deck, smoking (I know, bad) - this little guy just comes over, and being very friendly, not running away at all! Walking around my feet!!!

I have a Samsung P&S in my pocket, by the time I get it out, and focus on him, display blinks "Battery low" and shuts off...

Fine, run into the house, grab K10D - lens on is FA 100mm Macro - no time to change lens, hoping this little guy still out on the deck, grabbed some bread, camera (getting dark)...

Here are few shots at ISO 1600, f/3.5 1/60:

Actually - this little guy kinda made my day, sitting next to him so close and watching him munch!

Regards,
D

Nice shots. Those vermin are pretty brave anymore.

I need to figure out a way to stop them eating my bulbs. I wish I could just pay the neighbor's cat to constantly prowl my house, but she just won't listen to it.

Hay Sean, wasn't it Lipo from DPR who took the pictures of a Squirrel in his back yard? Ever since then I was left to believe they were green.
These aren't squirrels then are they:

Really, these are very nice shots. I like them both only because they aren't the ones who rob my bird feeder.

Good Shooting.

For that kind of sticktoittiveness I would hazard a guess that this squirrel was a model in previous life.
Nice detail from the cooperative fellow.
Give him a peanut from us.

When I lived in MD we had a big deck on our house. A certain squirrel would always come and sun himself on the rail every afternoon. He was very willing to have his picture made, even up close and personal. We called him "Fat Rat"!
For obvious reasons!
Very nice shots, and I don't think the noise is a problem at all. I just remember what it would look like with iso 1600 film and smile.

Those are super shots! Congrats, I really like animal and bird shots and the detail in these is wonderful. I'd love to get a few like that.

The eyes were so watery and there is so little noise at ISO 1600.

Very impressive shots. I think a lot of whining about ISO1600 come from user factors: poor lighting, under expose etc

You demonstrated the superiority of pentax ISO 1600 with such great texture details!

I'd never have guessed these were at iso 1600. The fact you could get these shots with the 100mm macro is amazing. Great detail and excellent shots overall!

I have a swag of negs. made on 1600 and a fair selection of trannies on 800ISO and none of them display detail and crispness like this, despite being made by the best of KM lenses and frequently with the aid of a tripod.
What will it be like when larger sensors become the 'norm'?
The photographer did a fair job too :-D

excellent captures, and the lack of noise really is remarkable for ISO 1600.

Thanks for the comments everyone! Yep, he was a fun little fellow, the last shot - I was at about two feet away from him, he just kept on munchin

Noise - yeah... That brings back memories of 90% of the threads of certain site of so many issues when K10D first arrived to the stores, yeah....

Regards,
D

P.S. I love this camera!
