Weather-sealing and Blizzard Conditions
Posted By: Bud, 03-08-2008, 06:14 PM

We have more snow on the ground now than we've had in, at least, 10 years and have been under a "Blizzard Warning" for most of the day in SW Ohio. The following is my account of the day's activities (also shared in DPR... so if you're a "double-dipper" like me... nothing new here )

Things to do in blizzard condtions...

First, decide that it might be interesting to test the
weather-sealing of your K20D / DA*50-135 combo.

Next decide on a mission...

Mine....buns and beer. We bought the meat yesterday... but forgot
the bread. The closest market is about a 1/2 mile walk.. so "grab
your girl and go", I said!!!

But wait a tic... can't forget to let the dog in!

The weather outside is frightful... but a Pentax (weather-sealed) is so delightful
(too cheesy?)

We encountered very few travelers on our journey...

Although, apparently, it was a nice day to walk your dog.. especially
if it's a Husky

You may find a few red-faced souls doing yardwork...

... on your way home. Just make sure that you wear clothing bright
enough so that those who are defying the "Level 3 Snow Emergency" can
spot you...

Upon your return, you may want to practice your BIF technique...

... or watch for wildlife in search of food.

And, if you're REALLY lucky... Frosty The Beer Man may have left you
something extra special and you can then relax, turn on the telly,
and watch NCAA games for the rest of the day.

I guess snow isn't that bad, afterall...

Stay warm, all you snow-bound Pentaxians!!!

Oh, yeah... the weather-sealing... it worked perfectly...

Bud - Thanks for sharing your day in pictures. What a great series. My favorite two are the birds (love how you caught one in flight) and the beer one (I bet they were nice and cold). My mom is driving home, to Ontario Canada, from Florida and she is stuck in Ohio somewhere because of your nice storm. I hope she is trying to make the best of it like you did.

Bud

I also like the starling in flight.

I won't comment on the snow, because as you can see from my location, I am getting the exact same thing, just about 5 hours later.

Over a foot so far, and they are forcasting snow for another 5 hours

p.s. the convertible you see was mine while in university, school & no money in winter, job & money in summer, hence convertible made perfect sence.

That is amazing. I recon you'd have to be a special kinda person to live in those conditions. Great photographic expose of your day Bud. I hope you remembered to let your poor little puppy in before you left That pic is priceless!

really great series; I feel the cold! Love the dog. Love the wildlife. Love the effective capture of the snow. BTW, I bet #3 and #6 would make for great conversions to B&W too.

Those shots are great. I still dont know how you people survive such weather.
I suggest you have a look at Daves (Daacon) earlier shots by the sea. May help to thaw you all out a bit.

Incidentally, I dont think I will complain about our "cold" weather ever again after seeing that.

Nice shots Bud, I also live in SW Ohio(Waynesville). However, I wasn't brave enough to bring out my pentax. If you don't mind me asking where do you live?

The squirrel finally gave up... we didn't see him for the rest of the day after that shot!

I'm in Middletown now, but grew up in Germantown. I get over to Caesar's Creek often during the spring and summer.

Today was almost balmy outside, so I'm sure that your mom was able to continue her journey. Thanks for the comments!
