Springs Fire
Photo Location: Ventura County Coast
Posted By: GeoJerry, 05-04-2013, 11:21 AM

I was driving from Ventura to LA down the Pacific Coast Highway an hour or two before they closed the road due to the Springs Fire. The smoke from the fire created some spectacular colors as it drifted over the ocean and partially obscured the sun. Thankfully, so far, no one has been injured and no homes lost despite fact that the fire remains out of control and over 10,000 acres have been burned.

Jerry, great captures of a terrible situation. I like how you included the kites in the smoke, very nice.

These are some super shots - I also love those kites! I have several family members living nearby, so I've been monitoring this fire for the past couple days. Thanks for posting!

Wow, those are beautiful shots with some great colours. Beautiful, but kind of eerie at the same time knowing the cause of the colours being from the fires. Just the same, great captures of some unique lighting and sky colour. Having the kite surfers in makes for some great composition and interest. Well done. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks folks, glad you liked these. A few months ago I resolved to always have my K-5 in the car when driving more than an hour or so. That policy paid off this time!
