Malibu Pier, Off Season
Lens: Sigma 8-16 mm Camera: Pentax K-5 Photo Location: Malibu Pier ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/350s Aperture: F9.5

We have our share of gloomy weather out here too. Here's a scene from early April, looking out on the Malibu Pier. Normally there would be so many people here that you couldn't see much else.

Nice. This is exactly how I like it actually. I like boardwalks on the rainy days for that reason. I'm much less ochlophobiac that way. It's funny I used to live in a huge city with millions of people and I never was like that but lately I just can't stand crowds. I didn't used to be so paranoid but with all the shootings and violence these past few years I just don't like being around a lot of people in public places anymore. I practically snarl when I have to deal with a lot of people at the grocery store. I hate going during the peak hours to shop. If I can't go places at times when there is less likely to be so many people I don't like going. I want to go on a trip to Europe sometime, and in particular I want to see London, Rome, Venice, Paris, but I wonder if I can really handle it sometimes. I never go to the beach unless it's like this though, ever. If I can't walk on the beach and see only a handful of people at best I can't stand to go. I don't like fun in the sun anyhow. Frying myself isn't a favorite pastime. I infinitely prefer it cool, cloudy and rainy to that.

Aye, watch all these fancy places on the Discovery channel and then come to Scotland, we've got it all here.

Scenery, mountains, views, weather, monsters, whisky and all without people.

We'd be delighted to see ya.

Thanks, and I know what you mean. More and more I tend to avoid going anywhere that will be a hassle, except for sporting events or shows.

All you need is sunshine, heat, and a day without pouring rain, and you'd have the full package, ehh?

(NB: never been to your neck of the woods, of course, but I've seen several sitcoms with scenes from Scotland - on the Internet, that renders my opinion authoritative, no?)

It seems a bit soft on my screen, but apart from that it's an excellent composition, great capture with the birds. Maybe a more dramatic sky (think blue with heavy clouds) would have improved even more.
