Nature Hairy

This is a male Hairy Woodpecker. It very closely resembles the Downey Woodpecker. Main difference is size (the Hairy is noticeably larger) and the length of the beak (the Hairy's is longer).

Tell the truth...you stuff and mount them first, don't you? So sharp, and nicely posed. How many frames did you shoot to get these three?
I was never really intriqued by photographing birds, but seeing these has piqued my interest. Any hints to a very rank amateur?

Thanks VERY much. Truthfully, yeah, they're stuffed. My uncle's a taxidermist.

Just kidding.

I shot six frames. The basics are simple: Get close, focus on the eye, and try to avoid shooting with man-made objects (make the shot as natural as possible).
