The Rod and the Recital
Posted By: Sailor, 05-19-2013, 04:21 PM

Our granddaughter, Claire, spent the weekend with us, and we enjoyed a long, fun and eventful Saturday, allowing me to capture her in two strikingly different settings on the same day. The first shot (Panasonic LX-5, fill flash) is of Claire posing next to a '61 T-Bird, her favorite of the rides displayed at a car show held to support a local charity. The second shot (K-5, DA 70, ambient light), taken a few hours later, shows a "different" Claire during her last recital of the year. Claire did a very nice job, and I'm truly proud of her. I'm also especially proud of my older daughter, Abbie (Claire's Mom), who - on the same day - completed her third IronMan in The Woodlands north of Houston. That she managed to do this while sick with the flu and in 91 F heat is astonishing to me. My kid's got guts - that's for sure.

I have seen that 1st pose from my 9 year old granddaughter, it's like I've got other things to do but I love you and take the picture. Great recital photo buddy, you can see and feel the concentration. I don't see how the ironman can pull that off and being ill I wouldn't think that would be a good thing for the body pushing it like that. I can tell you are proud with all of the ladies in the house, pretty smart man.

Hey, buddy, thanks for looking and your analyses of the photos are spot on. The Ironman is grueling under the best of circumstances, and I'm baffled that Abbie could have done it while under the weather. She's one stubborn woman.

Thanks Susan. I really like the recital shot - the lighting conditions were wretched and use of flash inappropriate, so I was happy the pic came out as well as it did.
