Bit of a wet old day , but decided to give the Sigma 70-300 Macro a run ..
ISO is a bit high for the Pentax istD me thinks ( 800 )

Nice colouring and focus in this shot only thing needed is some noise reduction to pull it together.

Might be time to install photoshop CS ( was just testing the lens ) .. The little istD does get a little grainy @ 800 ISO , I went into the menu and turned on noise reduction , will try again and see what happens ..

I just treat the istD as a practice camera , while I try to learn as much as possible , I tend to burn through the shutter count when I play with a camera , so better to wear out the istD than my K5 ..

I doubt you'll wear out the K5 - there are some folks here pushing well past 100,000 shutter clicks.
Not sure how good the image stabilization is on the istD - but I'd have risked going to 1/40 shutter speed and dropping the ISO down to 400.

image stabilization ? Not on a istD ... Pentax *ist DS - Pentax K-mount DSLRs - Pentax Camera Reviews and Specifications

2004 Model , like 9 years old @ only 6.1MP , the main cause of the graininess @ 800 is probably the 6.1MP .. A bit limited the istD (S) , which is why I treat it as my training camera ..

If I can take a half reasonable picture with an old camera and a cheap lens , then maybe ..

I think I have enough cameras , now I need to save my money for a decent lens ... Something razor sharp !

Oh ! my problem is , if I touch the camera - I average 100 pictures , if I reach for it 3 times , I can do 300 to 400 frames easy ..
Im just a shutter bug !

If you want a sharp lens for Macro & Portraits you can't go past the Sigma 105mm F2.8 DG Macro IMHO.

True, but the Tamron 90 and Sigma 70 macro are right up there, the Tamron being the steal of the bunch.

Yep , those lenses make the wallet ache ! Eaglem , that Sigma of yours rocks hard ! , and the Tamron 90mm is nothing to sneeze at ( was it top dawg once ? ) Will have to see how the finances can handle it ..

There seem to be two 90mm Tamrons - older and newer ? ( Tamron AF 90 and Tamron SP AF 90 ) $350 to $400

As well two two Sigma 105mm lenses - The $400 one and the $800 one ...
