I have Faith...
Posted By: Photochop, 01-11-2007, 11:55 AM

in ISO3200! I am very impressed and pleased with the ISO3200 capabilities of the K100. I wasn't going for anything artistic here, nor was I doing any noise tests. I just had to make use of the light coming in through the window and was trying to learn the camera and by surprise this is what I got.

ISO3200 f5.6 1/15 SR on - DA18-55mm (resized and slightly sharpened only)

Looks pretty clean at it's original size too

Cheers!

Thanks Tom I like the way you put it in words, it would make a great quote underneath this picture!

Thanks Brian The same type of light comes through my window everyday but only for a very short period, somewhere between 2 and 5 minutes. I'll have to play around with it some more

Hey Clarens, I believe you are correct, it also has to do with how well you expose the shot (so I've read) which I completely lucked out on. Thanks for commenting

I wonder if the 1/15 sec exposure was one of the reasons you didn't get the noise you expected. From what I understand the longer exposures tend to be more noisy.

For a test shot this one turned out real nice.

Haha! Believe me, it doesn't get much better than that for me, and it was pure luck!
But with practice I hope to get better.

Thanks xfraser

Thanks very much JoN Yeah, I do see just a tiny bit of grain in the fingers, I'd remove a couple of the red dots I see but the problem is I don't know how! Sooner or later I'll have to learn how to use Neat image or Noise Ninja. Does anyone have any recommendation on which program I should use?

great shot! the cross draws attention right away....some grain noise on the hands, but I think that adds to the overall effect of the photo...

good stuff

Thanks Shadow!

Gee, I hope I haven't broken any forum rules or upset anyone by replying to each of you individually, I just feel it's polite and personal but if anyone has any objections I won't do it again.

Thanks again everyone.

I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to use noise reduction on this image - any noise/grain adds to the atmosphere, in my opinion. I find noise reduced images look a little fake sometimes. But there's no denying it's a useful tool when you really need it!

I can't imagine anyone objecting to you being polite! If you're concerned about keeping the number of posts down, you can always use the multiple quote feature and reply to several people in a single post, but either way, nobody's going to get upset if you say thanks. And if they do, it's their problem!

Now that is a really, really nice photo and I do agree that you should submit it to a stock agency.

Yeah, well that's just it Every time I've tried to use either of those programs it either looks fake or it looks worse than it did with noise. I think the noise in this particular picture is very little but there are 2 tiny red spots that I could do without.

Thanks for the vote I've tried using that multi quote thing but I don't see a difference between that and "quote". Maybe I'm just thick
